Another Autoromantic flag
Autoromantic describes someone who experiences romantic attraction towards themself. There are many ways in which someone can be autoromantic, some of which are:
- Having a hard time responding to romantic actions/activities with others, but being able to/comfortable with carrying out said actions/activities with yourself
- Feeling little to no attraction to others romantically but feeling romantic attraction to yourself
- Experiencing fantasies about romantic interaction or a romantic relationship with yourself
- Feeling romantic attraction to yourself more than the 'norm'
It is the romantic counterpart of autosexual.
History & Coining
The term autoromantic was previously used as a playful term for a car enthusiast in 1971. Autoromantic appeared again as a form of poetic wordplay on an internet Usenet group in 2003. The definition it has now notably appears on a forum on the Asexuality Visibility and Education Network (AVEN) in 2007.
The prefix comes from the Greek term 'auto', meaning 'self'.
