Bi-Gay

Bi-Gay or Bi-orientated gay is someone who is both bisexual/biromantic and gay. A few common reasons somebody would choose to identify with this term are, but not limited to:

Using the Split-Attraction-Model
having a sexual attraction to two or more genders while only being to their own/similar genders
putting more emphasis on their attraction to their own/similar genders
Identifying as both bi and gay due to having a fluid and or changing attraction
Being apart of a Plural System and having a different sexuality depending on who's fronting
Using gay as an umbrella label
Being gay and questioning bisexuality

History[]

The history of identifying as both gay and bisexual can be found all the way back in 1988, in Bisexual Lives by Off Pink Publishing, where Andy, a 27 year old described himself as being both bisexual and gay.

“I see myself as gay and bisexual, they say this cannot be. However, my lifestyle having developed over the last 10 years as an ‘out’ gay man, I am not going into the closet. I am still gay.”

There are multiple other examples of this, another example would be in Gender Blending, edited by Bonnie Bullough, Vern L. Bullhough, and James Elias in 1997, where a 3 year relationship between a gay-identified bisexual trans man is described, as well as in Duel Attraction: Understanding Bisexuality by Martin S. Weinberg, Colin J. Williams, and Douglas W. Pryor that was made in 1995.

“I have felt gay all along, along with feeling bi. In terms of identifying, I feel like a citizen of the lesbian, gay, and bi community. Sexually, and in my heart, I identify as gay. Emotionally and personality-wise, I want to emphasize and have support for my relationships with men and with women, to identify with the community and as bi. People don’t always fit into discrete categories. I insist on identifying with both.”

Note: These are only a few examples of Bi-gays throughout history. There are plenty of other notable examples!
