Ceterosexual, previously called skoliosexual, is an orientation referring to a non-binary/genderqueer individual who is exclusively attracted to other non-binary/genderqueer individuals.

The term's previous definition as skoliosexual was transphobic in that it was defined as the attraction towards binary transgender individuals too, and was believed to be open for use by anybody of any gender.

The term abinarin also exists with a very similar, almost identical definition. It is an alternative to this term for those who are uncomfortable with its origins and flags, of which most are reused from when the term was known as skoliosexual.

History & Coining[]

First coined in 2010 as the transphobic skoliosexual by DeviantArt user Nelde, it was defined as the attraction to 'non-binary and transgender people' or 'non-cisgender people', which is now recognized today as fetishization and othering of transgender individuals. At the time, Nelde claimed to use "skolio" as it is the Greek word for queer. However, the name was highly controversial due to "skolio-" translating to "crooked" or "bent".

Ceterosexual was then coined as the replacement term largely due to the naming of skoliosexual. The prefix cetero- means "other". This time, it only included non-binary individuals and was exclusive for only them to use, yet still uses the old skoliosexual flags to this day. This decision can make many uncomfortable as well as the fact that the term had still been derived from a transphobic term, hence why other terms such as abinarin can be used to mean the same thing.

The individual who originally coined ceterosexual is still unknown.

Flags[]

The first skoliosexual/ceterosexual flag was created on October 14th, 2013 by DeviantArt user SavvyRed. Yellow represents being non-binary or being attracted to non-binary people. Green represents bigender, third gender, genderqueer, or other genders. White and black represents neutral genders, genderlessness, agender, and people questioning their gender identity. The lavender heart represents love outside the gender norms. Most alternate flags are based on this flag.
