Opalian is an orientation describing someone who is MLM, MLNB, NBLNB, and NBLM (someone who is a man/man-aligned and non-binary, and is attracted to men and non-binary individuals). There are multiple scenarios in which this can apply:

  • Someone who is bigender or multigender and identifies as both a man/man-aligned and non-binary
  • Someone who is genderfluid and is sometimes a man/man-aligned and sometimes non-binary
  • A masculine-aligned non-binary individual who also feels connected to manhood

The term opalian can refer to either exclusive or non-exclusive attraction, meaning it can be used alongside other identities to prioritise attraction or for other reasons, or as a standalone identity for exclusive attraction.

The WLW, WLNB, NBLNB, and NBLW equivalent is Iridian.

History & Coining[]

Opalian was coined by Tumblr user Nblmgalaxy on April 14th, 2018, inspired by the term iridian.

Flag[]

A poll was put up to decide the opalian flag. The final flag was decided posted on April 27th, 2018.

Blue/lavender represents attraction to men, as the colour lavender has long been an LGBTQ+ symbol, and blue is associated with masculinity in western society. Green represents multifaceted identity as being opalian encompasses a non-binary identity and a male/masculine identity. Yellow represents non-binary identity on many flags, and blue is traditionally masculine, so they’re blended together to make green. White represents expansiveness as there are many different identities that could exist alongside opalian, such as bigender, multigender, demiboy, polysexual, bisexual, etc. Yellow represents attraction to non-binary people. Yellow is typically used to represent non-binary people as a color that’s equally spaced from pink and blue and independent of binary associations. Orange represents love and warmth. A general celebration of opalian love.
